We are extremely thrilled to be able to present a hero of ours, Tony Wolf, in two online presentations. Tony's methods have been hugely influential in our work and instrumental in how we create action.
Join Tony Wolf for an in-depth look at the secret society of martial arts-trained female bodyguards who defended members of the English radical women's suffrage movement, including documentary footage and an archive of rare historical images.
Established during the volatile summer of 1913, at the height of increasingly militant suffragette activism and of repression by the police and government, the outlaw Bodyguard team was nicknamed "Mrs. Pankhurst's Amazons". They employed disguise and deception tactics as well as hand-to-hand combat when necessary to protect their leaders against assault and arrest, such as during the infamous "Battle of Glasgow" when they brawled with a much larger contingent of police constables and detectives in front of a shocked audience of 4500 people.
Their exploits have been featured in the movie "Suffragette" and in Tony Wolf's own "Suffrajitsu" graphic novel trilogy, both released during 2015, and also recently in the popular "Enola Holmes" movie starring Millie Bobby Brown and Helena Bonham Carter.
New Zealand citizen/US resident Tony Wolf is a former professional wrestler, stuntman and martial arts/self defence instructor. During the 1990s he devised his original Wolf System of stage combat, which has been taught to actor/combatants, dancers and stunt performers throughout the world, and between 1998-2000 he served as the Cultural Fighting Styles Designer for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. His action design has been featured in over 250 international feature film, television, stage and video game productions. Tony is also largely responsible for the revival of Bartitsu, the "lost martial art of Sherlock Holmes".
