GUNS & S’BLOOD
Sunday the 31st May 10am till 5pm

A FULL DAY OF THEATRICAL HANDGUNS AND FAKE BLOOD FX
As recommended by the Stage Management Association
The day is tailored to fulfill the needs of both the stage manager and the performer. The rules and regulations about the use of Blank Firing Guns are, at best, confusing. This workshop is designed to clarify the current UK gun law and the exceptions for using Realistic Imitation Firearms for Dramatic purposes.
We start with a discussion on the Law, the types of suitable weaponry for theatre and film, buying and storing weaponry and how to deal with one on set. We then learn how to hold the weapon correctly and to create the illusion of gun handling experience while adhering to the does and don’ts. In a ‘hands on’ session we look at the different weapons available and how they work. We then give you an opportunity to fire 3 different styles of blank firers in a safe environment. The morning session concludes with a feedback debrief and a quiz on what you have learnt. The afternoon session begins with an introduction to DIY blood devises and Blood FX and an opportunity to ‘have a go’, then in groups you create your own an action sequence that involves both a Blank Firing Handgun and a blood FX, with an optional show and tell. Handouts and certificates are distributed at the end of the session.
FEE: SMA MEMBERS AND NEWSLETTER RECEIVERS £60. Full £80
VENUE: Caxton House Community Centre, 129 St John's Way, London N19 3RQ. Nearest Tube Archway.
