CURRENT COURSES

Accuracy and form are very important elements when it comes to training people in stage combat. However the way we teach is not wholly invested in teaching shapes and technique but teaching action driven by intention and the character's emotional state.

Conwy is located in the North of Wales, at the mouth of the Conwy (Conway) River. It is a small county on the Irish sea. Conwy itself is a picturesque tourist town with several notable old structures. A high wall dating from the 13th century, encloses the old town and a church and castle from the same era also remain. It is here too that The Royal Cambrian Academy of Art can be found, it occupies the Elizabethan mansion Plas Mawr. With its famous historic castle, superb scenery and warm welcome, Conwy offers such a rich history to explore.

For the visitor, there's all the enchantment of the magic and mystery of the past woven into the majestic scenery, which stretches, from the coastline right through the rural heart of Snowdonia. The compelling mountain ranges, tranquil lakes and wild moor land provide the ultimate picturesque backdrop stretching back hundreds of years to an incredible past. Most evident at the unique Conwy Castle.

Conwy castle is a gritty, dark stoned fortress that evokes a truly authentic medieval atmosphere. The first time that visitors catch sight of the castle, commanding a rock above the Conwy Estuary and demanding as much attention as the dramatic Snowdonia skyline behind it, they know they are in the presence of a historic site. It was constructed by the English monarch Edward I between 1283 and 1289 as one of the key fortresses in his 'iron ring' of castles to contain the Welsh. A distinguished historian wrote of Conwy, 'Taken as a whole, Conwy's incomparably the most magnificent of Edward I's Welsh fortresses'. The views from the battlements are breathtaking, looking out across mountains and sea and down to the roofless shell of the castles 125ft Great Hall.

THEATRICAL HANDGUNS AND BLOOD FX

Sunday March 25th, 2012
10am – 5pm

A DAY OF THEATRICAL HANDGUNS AND BLOOD FX

Rc-Annie has a past history of working with guns. Last year we were invited to teach for the RSC in Stratford as part of their H&S review, have lectured at the Production Managers forum about Handguns and UK gun law, written the Stage Management Assoc Fact Sheet on Theatrical Handgun use, written an article for The Stage and are currently writing an article the Fight Master (the Society of American Fight Directors magazine)

More and more it seems that theatres understand that training is required to work with Blank Firers and to equipment themselves with the knowledge to navigate safe passage through the choppy waters of UK gun law.

The morning is dedicated to exploring current UK gun law and what you can and cannot use in a theatrical setting and then safe working practices. The afternoon is a chance to have some fun and play with blood FX and the end of the day is the challenge to combine the two in a safe dramatic scene.

FEES: Full £99, SMA and other conc. £80
VENUE: Rehearsal Room 5, 3 Mills Studios, Three Mill Lane, London, UK, E3 3DU

REQUIREMENTS: a complete change of clothing for the Blood section of the day. Eye, hand and ear protection provided, however please feel free to bring your own gloves (leather or similar)

ARCHERY IN THEATRE

Sunday June 10th, 2012

ARCHERY IN THEATRE

Since her wayward days of playing Maid Marian Ruth has always had a bit of a thing about Archery. Dabbling in this craft as both teacher and student she has had many adventures including that of Archery Consultant for the RSC’s production of Dunsinane.

In a unique one day course we explore handling this primitive weapon and address the safety considerations when using a real projectile weapon in a live performance.

Learn the basics in our ‘Have a go’ archery session, and then put your new skills to test in the fun competitive games that encourage speed, accuracy, safety and awareness when handling a bow. At the end of the day we address the concerns and challenges of live archery in the theatre and film environment.

VENUE: Caxton House Community Centre, 129 St John's Way, London N19 3RQ. Nearest tube - Archway.
